Animation is just another way of telling a story

Christopher Miller

Calling all kids - create your very own stop motion film!

Calling all budding film makers and animators!

Join the the Sydney Opera House team as we deep dive into the wild and wonderful world of stop motion animation! Be guided step-by-step as we design and create unique characters and worlds from found objects and bring them to life through the magic of motion.

Kids will learn visual storytelling through hands-on tactile play, by making their very own animation and discovering the skills needed to keep creating them at home. A film set up and some materials will be provided but please ensure all children have a recording device of a smart phone or tablet.

Jelena Sinik

Jelena is an award-winning animator and filmmaker from Sydney's Eastern beaches. She graduated a Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound) degree at the University of New South Wales in 2014 before completing a Master of Animation at the University of Technology Sydney. Her animations have been festival-screened internationally numerous times and when she's not swimming, she's crafting delightful films that strive to illuminate the often overlooked surrealism of the everyday.

Around this time, she met Jelena where their friendship grew to become the foundation for an array of exciting collaborations including the 2023 Sydney Opera House Vivid projection as well as various award-winning short films. Nicolette has spent many years working in schools as an educator and is passionate about finding new ways to share stories and inspiring others to unlock their own creativity.

Simon von Wolkenstein

Simon has been teaching animation and design over the last decade at the University of Technology Sydney in the Bachelor and Masters degrees. He also runs animation and stop-motion animation workshops for Indigenous schoolchildren as part of the university’s outreach program.
