Åkervinda breathe new life into Scandinavian folk tunes

Swedish vocal quartet Åkervinda make their Australian debut in this incredible concert in the Utzon Room. Named for a Swedish wildflower whose roots spread far and wide, like rivers underground, the award-winning Åkervinda are four jazz singers – Lise Kroner, Iris Bergcrantz, Linda Bergström and Agnes Åhlund – united by a deep love of folk music. Celebrated for their fresh, modern interpretations, and praised across folk, jazz and a cappella scenes, they breathe new life into traditional Scandinavian folk tunes.

The quartet’s second album Förgänglighet was nominated for a Swedish Grammis for Folk Music of the Year, and their third album Så Skall Hat och Avund Smältas won a Danish Music Award in 2024. In 2023, Åkervinda received the prestigious Kaggenstipendiet scholarship from Orphei Drängar in Uppsala, Sweden.

The group made their television debut on the beloved Swedish program Allsång på Skansen in 2019, performed with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra in 2021, and appeared with the Beethoven Symphony Orchestra Bonn in 2024. Don’t miss this chance to hear Åkervinda perform their moving, contemporary arrangements of traditional tunes in a recital that will leave you spellbound.
