A sonically mesmerising cross-cultural collaboration inspired by water

In this special presentation in The Studio, immerse yourself in a cross-cultural collaboration celebrating water as a symbol of connection and renewal, weaving together multicultural narratives, Korean, Chinese, Iranian and Western instruments to create a sonically immersive soundscape. Water Song is led by acclaimed South Korean-Australian vocalist and composer Sunny Kim and her Ensemble Ochaye, featuring some of Australia’s most adventurous musicians and artists from a diverse range of backgrounds - Aviva Endean (clarinets), Gelareh Pour (kamancheh, vocals), Mindy Meng Wang (guzheng) and Zoë Barry (cello).

Through intricate improvisations and collective composition, Ensemble Ochaye explores water as a force of mystery and power. It reflects on its role as a conduit of life and death and a source of inspiration that unites diverse cultures. “Through improvisation and collective composition,” Kim says, “we explore water as a source of renewal and survival, a keeper of history and a threshold between worlds. Water carries our voices, blending traditions into a fluid, ever-changing soundscape. We invite you to listen deeply, to feel the currents of these songs, and to reflect on your own connection to water.”
