The return of a 20-time Grammy Award winning guitar legend

Widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz guitarists – if not guitarists, period – of all time, Kansas City-born composer and bandleader Pat Metheny has been blowing minds with his innovative playing for more than 50 years, becoming the only artist in history to win 20 Grammy awards across 10 different categories. For the first time in more than a decade, the celebrated virtuoso is set to return to the Sydney Opera House stage solo, performing music from across his storied career and most recent album, 2024’s masterfully minimal Dream Box.

A one-time teen prodigy in thrall to both Miles Davis and The Beatles, Metheny has released more than 50 albums since his 1976 debut Bright Size Life, developing a peerless reputation as a risk-taking stylist who blends jazz with Afro-Latin, Brazilian, rock, funk and global music sounds. Across a career that spans solo guitar, rock and classical, he has recorded countless best-selling albums – including Still Life (Talking) (1987), Letter from Home (1989) and Secret Story (1992) – performed with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins and avant-garde musician Steve Reich, and collaborated with everyone from jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman to cutting-edge rock stars Joni Mitchell and David Bowie. In 1994, his Zero Tolerance for Silence album was dubbed “the most radical recording of the decade” by no less than Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore.

Don’t miss this chance to experience a legendary guitarist as he takes the stage solo – and an exhilarating, improvisational live performer.
