A man stands in front of two dinosaur puppets.

Artist to Artist Masterclass Principles of Puppetry with Steve Howarth, Head of Design at Erth (Australia)

  • Workshops
  • Centre for Creativity
  • Run time: 90 minutes Subject to change

This experience includes a ticket to the workshop and a performance on the day of the workshop (subject to availability).

Join the designer who heads up the workshop responsible for Erth’s most exquisite puppets, from the ferocious cast of Erth’s Dinosaurs through to a menagerie of critically endangered contemporary animals as well as fabulous creatures of the imagination.

Steve Howarth’s design aesthetic is deeply rooted in the sculptural form, drawing inspiration from the natural world with an eco-conscious approach to creative reuse and repurposing of materials.

In this workshop, participants will learn about Erth’s design and construction process and its application to the company’s body of work over the past 35 years. Peel back the layers of some of our most recognisable puppets to discover the intricate mechanisms that make them tick (or roar). You’ll have the opportunity to manipulate a range of dinosaurs and other puppets and leave inspired to create your own masterpiece.

This workshop is suitable for emerging, mid and senior artists interested in making their own puppets, design and construction students and puppeteers wishing to extend their practice.
