Followed by a post-screening Q&A with director Hyun Lee, moderated by Angus McGrath.

In director Hyun Lee’s micro-budget debut feature, Mia Kidis stars as Mia - an aimless construction worker - who is scouted by a model agent and parachuted into the Australian fashion scene.

As a model she makes the most money she’s ever made, while doing the least work she’s ever done in her life. The world is absurd and the fashion world is even more so. It’s not like how it is in the movies, everyone just does their jobs and her job is to do nothing.

French Girls is about the human struggle to find ways to be ourselves, in environments that relentlessly push us away from it.

Hyun Lee is a writer / director / photographer in Sydney. Her short film Asian Girls had its world premiere at SXSW South by Southwest Film Festival in and was a recipient of the ScreenNSW: Emerging Filmmakers’ Fund. The film was distributed exclusively online through Gunpowder and Sky’s horror platform Alter where it has amassed over a million views. Her recent TV writing credits include Paramount+ series Fake starring Asher Keddie and David Wenham. The series broke subscription and streaming records and won the Australian Writers’ Guild Award for Limited Series.
