Offbeat mockumentary classic with an all-star ensemble at their improvisational best

United States | 2000 | English | Comedy | PG

The late, great Catherine O’Hara teams up with Eugene Levy (Schitt’s Creek) as a hyper-competitive husband and wife combo, determined to win top prize at the Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show. Director Christopher Guest follows his star-turn as Nigel Tufnel in This Is Spinal Tap, and his 1996 debut Waiting For Guffman, with this classic of the mockumentary genre that influenced countless comedies in its wake.

A masterclass in satirising the American obsession with competition and status, the cast is stacked with Guest’s regular ensemble of stellar improv actors including Jane Lynch, Fred Willard, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael McKean, John Michael Higgins, Parker Posey and many more.

In June 2025, it landed a place in The New York Times’ list of “The 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century”, cementing its status as one of the great comedies of the era.
