Krishan Anand celebrated his 70th birthday in the sweeping surrounds of the Opera House’s Yallamundi Rooms, with sixty of his nearest and dearest.
Tell us about the event you hosted at the Opera House
It was a very pleasant day and the Opera House completely met our expectations. The staff were very good-mannered, friendly and quick in responding to requests that we made. We ordered plenty of food and had brought in Indian sweets to supplement the food (catered by Trippas White Group). This all went well, and we stuck to a strategy of having more food and refreshments than was actually required.
What was a highlight from the day?
The songs and dances. The duet I sang with my wife Sunita was very special as we had been practising in the days beforehand. The venue and speeches were unforgettable.

Please tell us about how you honoured your heritage in the celebrations.
This is a very good question. I related life events in my speech in travels that were done in India, Africa (Zambia) and trips around Australia, including Uluru by car from Sydney. We also reflected on a trip to the Indian Himalayas to the most holy Kedarnath Temple to thank Lord Shiva on the birth of my son Bharat at the Royal North Shore Hospital in 1985. Bharat was the MC for the birthday event and I’m very proud that he has a successful job in the financial industry in Melbourne, where he now lives.
Why did you choose the Opera House to celebrate your family birthdays?
A great reason was to go with the best venue for celebrations in Australia, possibly the world. It was a perfect idea that was realised 100%. This was truly a lifetime event hard to repeat.
