Sir Dave Dobbyn says that since day one, he has had a tune in his head. He’d be twiddling the dial on the radiogram, “travelling the world in music”. Across the road was a church, full of songs in which to hide.

Sir Dave Dobbyn has shaped the soundtrack of Kiwi lives for nearly 50 years. He first found fame with Th' Dudes in the late '70s which he formed with his school friends, then made history fronting DD Smash, whose debut album hit No. 1 in its first week. As a solo artist, his run of hits, including ‘Slice of Heaven’, ‘Loyal’, ‘Beside You’, ‘Be Mine Tonight’, ‘Welcome Home’, ‘Whaling’, ‘Kingdom Come’ and more - has made him one of New Zealand's most enduring songwriters. 'Loyal' regularly tops national polls as the country's favourite song, and Dobbyn holds the most Silver Scroll Awards of any songwriter.

His career highlights include ‘Slice of Heaven’ spending eight weeks at No. 1 in NZ, a lifetime achievement award in 2001, and 2006's ‘Welcome Home’ - performed for war veterans and the Royal Family at London's War Memorial dedication. He's released nine studio albums, including 2016's Harmony House, and continues to tour extensively.

Knighted in 2021 for music services, Sir Dave Dobbyn remains one of New Zealand's most revered cultural figures. In the world of pop music, longevity is rarely achieved, but Dobbyn’s talents have consistently charmed their way into the consciousness of New Zealanders.
