The Big Issue

Immerse yourself in a transformative new experience with a Dutch neo-classical master

Five years after beguiling audiences with his performance at the Sydney Opera House in 2019, best-selling Dutch pianist and neo-classical master Joep Beving returns with an all-new performance of his latest work, Hermetism – an immersive audio-visual experience developed in collaboration with artists Boris Acket, Merijn Versnel and Roxanne Percobic. Drawn from Beving’s 2022 album of the same name, Hermetism reflects the artist’s fascination with the spiritual and the unknown, our perception of time and the inner self. The performance brings Beving’s gorgeously melodic, deeply contemplative piano music together with Acket’s stunning visual installations, enveloping the audience in the collective experience of the universe in all its mystery. It’s quite unlike any piano concert you’ve seen.

One of the world’s most popular neo-classical artists, Beving first came to global attention with the release of his 2015 debut Solipsism, a collection of minimal piano pieces with big emotions that became a breakout hit – and saw him join the ranks of contemporary post-classical favourites Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi and Nils Frahm. The album was followed by the acclaimed, equally successful trilogy of Prehension (2017), Conatus (2018) and Henosis (2019). Beving sold out his debut show at the Sydney Opera House in 2017, and returned to wow audience with further sold-out shows at Vivid LIVE in 2018 and his solo engagement – performing Henosis – in 2019.

Don’t miss the return of a global phenomenon, in what promises to be his most meditative performance to date.
