Living Thai tradition comes alive in the Utzon Room

Hailing from the Phetchabun Mountains of rural Thailand, Khun Narin are a multi-generational ensemble whose ecstatic performances turned a deeply local sound into a global phenomenon.

Originally a live band playing community ceremonies, they were discovered by the world via a grainy YouTube video, leading to their acclaimed debut in 2014. Their sound draws from the musical tradition of Isan, but has been compared to surf rock, garage psychedelia and trance. At its heart is the electrified phin, a piercing yet melodic three-stringed lute.

On III (2026), their first album in more than a decade and first ever recorded in a studio, producer Tommy Brenneck (Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé, Mark Ronson) captures their raw communal energy with new depth and clarity. Championed by Bonobo and cited as a major influence by Khruangbin, Khun Narin occupy a singular space where Thai musical traditions meet the exploratory spirit of global psychedelia.

In the intimate Utzon Room, Khun Narin will bring a living musical tradition into a new setting – music that exists beyond borders, genre and expectation: communal, kinetic and joyfully uncontainable.
