Enter another world with Sydney Theatre Company. In our 2023 Season, we are escaping to far-flung places and journeying deep into the human experience. This will be a year of spectacular theatre that takes you out of the everyday and into another world of excitement and possibility.

In 2012, Julia Gillard, Australia’s first female prime minister, gave a speech that sent shockwaves around the world. Now, ten years later, one of Australia’s most celebrated playwrights, Joanna Murray-Smith, brings the story behind that speech to the stage in Julia, an intimate and compelling production starring Justine Clarke.

It’s January 1788 and seven clan leaders must choose whether to send a group of mysterious strangers on their way or welcome them. In a new production directed by Wesley Enoch, Jane Harrison's The Visitors is a riveting insight into one of the most impactful days in Australia’s history, and a hugely entertaining study of communities responding to the unknown.

Pip Williams’ award-winning New York Times bestseller and book club favourite The Dictionary of Lost Words will be brought to vivid life in a new adaptation by Verity Laughton. A sweeping historical tale and a beautiful reflection on the love between fathers and daughters, at a time when the women’s rights movement was first gaining traction.
