Mozart’s classic comedy of mistaken identities

A chaotic whirlwind of mistaken identities makes the wedding day of Figaro and Susanna a lesson in hilarity.

With a witty, fast-moving libretto and hum-along melodies, Mozart’s classic is a lesson in hilarity. It’s Figaro and Susanna’s wedding day, but Count Almaviva is determined to win Susanna for himself. In one crazy day of disguises, duplicity, desire and utter madness, the fiancés must foil the philandering noble’s seductive advances.

Musically, this is the ultimate ensemble opera. Dramatically, it’s the opera with everything: lovers and liaisons, tricks and disguises, lust and laughter.

Sir David McVicar’s naturalistic staging opens a “comic cauldron of sex and social politics” (Limelight), with extraordinary 17th-century costumes and sets.

International singers Gordon Bintner and Michael Sumuel make their Australian debuts alongside some fabulous Australian singers: Kiandra Howarth, Siobhan Stagg, Emily Edmonds and Jane Ede.
