Workplace Readiness Program
The simple idea that the Opera House was built to serve the whole community is at the heart of our ambition to be Everyone’s House. In 2019 we committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, as we work together to achieve a more sustainable, equitable future for us all. A fundamental part of this mission is the importance of creating opportunities and broadening access for patrons, artists and employees.
The Workplace Readiness Program employs young people with intellectual disability. The program leads the way, both across the arts sector and the broader community, as a best-practice framework that supports a successful transition to mainstream employment for participants.
In collaboration with Jigsaw Australia and Centre for Disability Studies the program has embedded staff in multiple entry level positions at the Opera House. It includes training and peer connections to help staff to achieve their goals while fostering a sense of belonging in the workplace.
