Tell stories through shadow play
In this specially designed workshop for the Sydney Opera House, internationally renowned theatre-makers and visual artist Jumaadi takes children and young people on a journey to make performances using household materials.
From storyboarding, paper puppet making and shadow play, this workshop will introduce kids to one of the oldest forms of theatre-making in the world - the traditional art of wayang kulit or shadow puppetry from Indonesia. Then end the day with a performance that the whole family will love!
Be inspired by the story of the Opera House and learn how to draw and design your very own characters and backdrops. You will learn different paper cutting methods to cast your drawings and paper cuts into animated shadows with various light sources onto different surfaces.
