Cosmo's Midnight announce two all-ages shows for their Opera House debut

Sydney – Friday 6 November, 2020. Sydney Opera House will welcome the shimmering sound of summer with two all-ages performances by Sydney electropop duo Cosmo’s Midnight. The genre-pushing twin producers will celebrate their acclaimed new album Yesteryear on 10 December with their only 2020 Sydney show for the band’s Opera House debut.

“We're beyond excited to be performing at the Sydney Opera House. It's Australia's most iconic venue and we've seen many shows there over the years but we never imagined we'd be performing there let alone for our only hometown show in 2020 - it's just a dream come true! We can't wait to bring our new album fully realised to the stage for the very first time for you all ♥.” Cosmos Midnight

Since breaking out with their remix of Flume’s “Sleepless” in 2012, Inner West twin brothers Patrick and Cosmo Liney have become one of the most celebrated and progressive acts to emerge from Australia. The duo have gone from DIY Soundcloud craftsmen to full-blown multi-instrumental performers, riding an infectious mix of glistening beats, R&B and pop to 225 million streams, five gold records, including the hit “Walk With Me’, with KUČKA, and a global following that stretches from the beaches of Bondi to the clubs of Los Angeles. They've commanded stages and sold out shows across America, Europe and Asia; with hallmark appearances across Australia including Splendour in the Grass, Laneway Festival and Falls Festival.

Building on the success of their 2018 debut What Comes Next, the duo’s latest album, Yesteryear, is their most accomplished record to date: a boundary-pushing fusion of organic and digital pop that’s at once nostalgic and progressive, with a smash lead single “C.U.D.I.”, in collaboration with teen sensation Ruel on “Down For You”, and guest spots from Winston SurfshirtMatthew Young, and Age.Sex.Location. On Yesteryear, the Liney twins funnel their beat-making history into a heavier emphasis on instrumentation, influenced by their parents' vinyl collection and sounds from the 60s, 70s and 80s. For the first time, Patrick takes a prominent role as a vocalist, while the songs delve into everything from psych rock to disco. What results is an album that feels both nostalgic and modern, and one that champions Cosmo’s Midnight’s penchant for timeless, emotive music.

Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, says: “It gives me immense pleasure to welcome the mighty Cosmo’s Midnight to Sydney Opera House, and to recognise the significance of live music returning to our stage after such a long absence (did we really start this year with Solange and Lizzo?). It’s a joyous feeling to know that Sydney’s music lovers are finally able to come back together to celebrate music and art under the sails again, and what better way to do it than with the city’s own Patrick and Cosmo Liney on an absolute career high. Their life-affirming, vibrant live performance is the summer fun panacea we’ve all been waiting for. Don’t miss it.”
