House Canteen, a new harbourside dining destination at the Sydney Opera House

The Opera House is excited to welcome the House Canteen to its line-up of popular bars and restaurants from Thursday 13 October. Currently trading as Opera Kitchen, the eatery – located right next door to its iconic neighbour Opera Bar – will relaunch under Matt Moran and hospitality group Solotel as an all-day, canteen-inspired dining venue with show-stopping views of Sydney Harbour.

During breakfast hours, sumptuous pastries, donuts and baked goods from Sydney’s best bakeries will be served alongside coffee from Single O. For lunch and dinner, a new menu drawing on Asian cuisines will feature poke bowls, dumplings, rice paper rolls, sushi and Korean fried chicken. The seasonal menu is complemented by a wine list showcasing the best of Australian producers alongside beers and inventive cocktails.

Sydney Opera House Chief Customer Officer Jade McKellar says: “Our harbourside dining venues are a distinct drawcard for locals and visitors, so we’re thrilled that Matt Moran and Solotel will reimagine the former Opera Kitchen space as the House Canteen. Their innovative concept will enhance the venue’s status as a destination restaurant and bar while continuing to offer our audiences and visitors a vibrant and diverse dining experience. Whether it’s a morning coffee, lunch with friends, a pre-theatre bite or late-night snack following a show, guests can enjoy a delicious new menu with the same welcoming atmosphere and, of course, with the same breathtaking views.”

House Canteen co-owner Matt Moran says: “It’s hard to beat this waterside location at the Opera HouseWe’re thrilled to continue being part of such an iconic location for our city with House Canteen. It’s a relaxed and welcoming offering with plenty of crowd favourites on the menu.”

House Canteen will open every day of the week for all-day dining, with both dine-in and takeaway options available for visitors on-the-go. Bookings for the House Canteen are now open and can be made here.

Solotel, the hospitality group that operates venues including Aria, Barangaroo House, Golden Sheaf and Opera Bar, was reappointed as the operator of the House Canteen site for a three-year term following a public tender process.
