The Wiggles world premiere performance on the Opera House digital stage

Sydney – Friday 5 June, 2020. Global superstars The Wiggles will make their Sydney Opera House digital stage debut at 4pm (AEST) on Sunday 14 June 2020 in an exclusive performance available to audiences around the world as part of the Opera House’s weekly digital program From Our House to Yours.

Emma, Lachy, Simon and Anthony Wiggle will don their signature coloured skivvies when they take over the Joan Sutherland Theatre stage to perform a digital set that will include their brand new single “Social Distancing” that has amassed close to 1.5 million plays on YouTube. The upbeat song empowers children with knowledge about hand-washing to keep safe from germs, and how they can remain connected digitally when they can’t meet face-to-face with their loved ones, friends, and family.

Undoubtedly the world’s most famous children’s entertainers, The Wiggles’ roots lie in early childhood development and learning. Some of their greatest hits include catchy classics like “Big Red Car”“Hot Potato”“Fruit Salad” and “Rock-A-Bye Your Bear”. Guided by the idea that their music should educate as well as entertain, they have found international success with a daily television show that airs on ABC Kids and a YouTube channel boasting well over a million subscribers. Their live shows attract more than half a million children and carers each year.

Sydney Opera House Head of Children, Families and Creative Learning, Tamara Harrison said: “Inviting The Wiggles onto the Opera House's digital stage gives children and their families in Sydney, around Australia and globally a special moment to dance, sing, and laugh together, from the comfort of their own home while our doors are temporarily closed. It continues to be a unique and challenging time for children and parents everywhere, and it’s wonderful to have great artists such as The Wiggles perform live to inspire us all.”

Yellow Wiggle, Emma Watkins said: “We can’t wait to perform for our wiggly friends at the Sydney Opera House! We haven’t performed any live shows in such a long time, so we are really excited to be able to reach audiences in this new way during this unprecedented time. The last couple of months has shown us, and in turn the world, that we need to be creative in order to continue connecting with families so we hope that children and families enjoy this wiggly experience.”

While its doors are temporarily closed to the public, the Sydney Opera House has continued to present entertaining, engaging and inspiring content online as part of its digital program From Our House to Yours. Released every Wednesday, the weekly program features full-length performances, talks, playlists, podcasts and written content, as well as new and live-streamed performances from the Joan Sutherland Theatre stage. Since its launch, From Our House to Yours has been enthusiastically received with more than two million views and downloads, uplifting and connecting the community with the very best of local and international artists.

This performance will be Auslan interpreted and available on demand through the Opera House website.
