90 years. Nine Grammys. One guitar legend. Experience the blues like never before.

Blues icon, rock ’n’ roll titan, living legend: is it any wonder the multiple Grammy Award-winning Buddy Guy remains so vital, nearly eight decades into his singular music career. Fresh off his performance at the spiritual heart of Ryan Coogler’s blues-soaked smash Sinners, the man who inspired Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and every generation of guitar heroes returns to the Sydney Opera House for one night only, performing material from across his wildly storied career.

Born to a Louisiana sharecropper’s family in 1936, Guy famously fashioned his first guitar at the age of seven, and in 1957 relocated to Chicago to play on the legendary Chess Records label alongside the likes of Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. An incendiary player whose explosive licks provided the blueprint for Hendrix, Richards, Page, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and countless other guitarists, Guy has sustained a career of remarkable longevity and relevance, dazzling audiences with his anarchic virtuosity, even as he approaches 90.

Fresh from his ninth Grammy Award win in February for Best Traditional Blues Album, Buddy Guy shows no signs of slowing down. This is a rare chance to experience a living custodian of rock ’n’ roll in all his volcanic splendour, a time machine to the past who simultaneously points music’s way back to the future.

Event details

I’ve been playing the blues a long time, but there’s nothing like bringing it to new places and old friends. Australia’s got some real blues lovers, and I can’t wait to get back and make that guitar talk for them one more time.
