A highlight of the dance calendar, thousands of entrants across the state share their love of dance in a showcase of all dance styles, from classical to pop. This is one of Sydney’s biggest days of dance for primary-age groups.

Storytime Ballet: The Nutcracker

On Christmas Eve Clara receives a nutcracker doll who magically comes to life. Together they battle the Rat King and visit the Land of Sweets for a grand celebration with the Sugar Plum Fairy before Clara wakes up at the foot of the Christmas tree – but was it really all a dream?

The Sleeping Beauty

Ten years after its spectacular premiere, David McAllister’s opulent production of The Sleeping Beauty returns to whisk you away into a magical realm of fairies and spells, good versus evil and a royal romance. Accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score, The Sleeping Beauty is a dreamlike vision, evoking ballet’s golden era with traditional choreography and extravagant designs. The gilded set stands alongside over 300 bespoke costumes, wigs and fairy wings, designed by the award-winning Gabriela Tylesova.

Getting to the venue

The Opera House is a 7-10 minute walk from Circular Quay, and is easily accessible by car, train, ferry, lightrail, bus, bike and on foot.

Location and access

Concert Hall

The Concert Hall is located beneath the largest of Sydney Opera House’s roof sails, filling the upper levels of the west side of the building. Best accessed through the covered concourse. 

All Sydney Opera House foyers are accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators).
