How to spend 24 hours in Sydney Join us as we spend a day in Australia’s beautiful city.

8 am: Start your day at Manly Beach

Although Bondi is the most famous beach in Sydney, it isn’t necessarily the best or only beach worth visiting. Instead, we recommend Manly Beach, which was recently crowned one of the top 25 beaches in the world by Tripadvisor. Manly is beautiful and lively, with lots of great shops, cafes and walking trails nearby. We also recommend checking out Shelly Beach (a smaller cousin of the main beach) which is only a short walk away and great for a morning dip.

Plus the ferry to and from Manly provides you with some of the best views of Sydney and its landmarks, including the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.

9am: Have brekkie at Staple Bread & Necessities Manly

This bakery serves up delicious pastries like croissants, cinnamon scrolls and vanilla slices – all made with rye and wholewheat puff. Their bread is also made with long fermentations, natural yeast and hand-grinded grain. The bakery is situated near Manly Wharf and only minutes away from Manly Beach. Grab a takeaway pastry and coffee and walk down to the shore to tuck in.

Once you've splashed around in the sea and indulged in some pastries, make your way to the ferry to Circular Quay.

11am: Stroll through the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

After catching the ferry back to Circular Quay, take a stroll through the beautiful Botanical Gardens. You’ll see views of the Opera House, plus all the amazing flora growing in the gardens. Find a spot under the shade and read a book, listen to music or simply close your eyes and take in the sounds of the harbour.

12:30 pm: Upgrade your pub lunch at The Squire’s Landing

Named after Australia’s first brewer, James Squire is a staple in the craft beer scene. Their flagship brewhouse, The Squire’s Landing, combines a brewpub, microbrewery and restaurant all in one. Head to the first floor for a casual lunch or if you’re looking for something a bit fancier, head upstairs to their restaurant. Either way, you’ll be treated to gorgeous views of the Sydney Opera House and the harbour.

3pm: Tour the Sydney Opera House

Join a tour of the Sydney Opera House and go beneath the sails of the famous building. You’ll get to hear the story behind this iconic landmark, visit the theatres where countless artists have performed, as well as the foyers and spaces that make up the building. Plus find out some well-kept secrets and fun facts about the icon.

4pm: Have a drink at Opera Bar

After touring the Opera House, rest your legs at Opera Bar, where you can enjoy a drink or bite, surrounded by amazing harbour views. Or if you’re with the kids, House Canteen, an all-day dining venue, is right next door. Enjoy the sunset while listening to live music playing nearby.

Top tip: You can also purchase a Tour and Dine experience, which combines a tour and lunch at Opera Bar or House Canteen all in one package. Learn more about Tour & Dine.

8pm: Have dinner at Clam Bar

This New York-inspired steak house packs plenty of punch and we’re not just talking about the steak (though it is delicious). The menu leans heavily on seafood, with the fish of the day filleted tableside and served with the sauce of your choice. And yes the clams are great, which come served in a delicious spaghetti.

9pm: End the day at the Glenmore Hotel

End your day in Sydney with a visit to The Glenmore Hotel, a historic three-story pub offering unrivalled views of Sydney Harbour since 1921. Make your way to the rooftop terrace where groups gather amidst the lively atmosphere, taking in the panoramic 180-degree vista of the iconic harbour. With a perfect view of the Opera House, it's a moment to reflect on the secrets told earlier. As the city lights twinkle below, sip on your drinks and plan your next 24 hours in Sydney.

After this jam-packed day, it's safe to say you’ve earned a sleep-in. Learn more about visiting the Opera House or booking a tour.
