Mary Lattimore makes her Opera House debut in December 2023
“I’m very honoured to play at the iconic Sydney Opera House with my dear friend Paul. I love the fact that now, we'll be a tiny part of the story of this architectural jewel and symbol of Sydney.” - Mary Lattimore
Sydney —
Acclaimed American harpist and composer Mary Lattimore will make her Opera House debut in an intimate Utzon Room performance on December 4.
Known for musical offerings imbued with emotional resonance and evocative storytelling, Lattimore crafts melodic tapestries that have captivated audiences globally for over a decade. Playing her 47-string Lyon & Healy harp along with hypnotic synth effects, Lattimore will be joined by guitarist Paul Sukeena for this special performance.
Lattimore’s 2023 solo album Goodbye, Hotel Arkada, represents how far her sonic journey has evolved over the past five years, with her recorded material expanding to incorporate guitar, keyboard, Theremin and much more. The new release includes collaborations with Lol Tolhurst (The Cure), Meg Baird and Rachel Goswell (Slowdive).
A sought-after session musician, Lattimore has worked with numerous indie rock and experimental musicians including Thurston Moore, Sharon Van Etten, Jarvis Cocker, Kurt Vile and Jeff Zeigler. Her 2020 album Silver Ladders, in collaboration with Slowdive's Neil Halstead, expanded her ambient harp with a rich arrangement of accompanying mellifluous textures.
Having embarked on her solo career in 2012, listeners have journeyed with her as she has woven patterns and stories through her exquisite craft. A journey between artist and audience so enthralling there leaves no option but to be enveloped and transported beyond the physical and into a dream.
Sydney Opera House Producer, Contemporary and Classical Music, Casey Green says: “We are delighted to be welcoming the wondrous harpist Mary Lattimore to the Utzon Room for her Sydney Opera House debut. Her work is completely transporting, and her twilight performance in this intimate setting will be awe-inspiring. Come for the water views at dusk, stay for an ambient, ethereal journey that is not to be missed.”
