Making the invisible, visible

Inspired by Patch Theatre’s performance ZOOOM – an immersive performance that explores what dreams are made of – students will make a ‘piece of dark’ from recycled materials that explore dreams and their imagination. 

In this workshop students will unpack the performances themes of space and our galaxy, memory, mythology and storytelling across cultures about day and nighttime.

This workshop can be booked alongside a performance of ZOOOM.

What to expect

Students will:

  • use a range of recycled materials to create their own ‘pieces of dark’ 
  • explore ideas about light and dark, day and night and how the visible and invisible can come together
  • take inspiration from constellations, the sky and patterns of weather, bed time stories
  • explore how their imagination can run wild and how their dreams can come to life!
  • move between imaginative play and hands-on making 

All materials for this workshop will be provided.

Subject areas: Creative Arts, Science and Technology, English, Design and Technology.

General capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities: Literacy, Digital Literacy, Sustainability, Creative and Critical Thinking. 

Key themes: Lighting and set design, imagination, sensory theatre making, creative storytelling with props, objects and technology.

Getting to the venue

The Opera House is a 7-10 minute walk from Circular Quay, and is easily accessible by car, train, ferry, lightrail, bus, bike and on foot.

Location and access

Centre for Creativity

The Centre for Creativity is located at the end of the Western Foyers, next to the Drama Theatre. Best accessed through the Western Foyers entry.

All Sydney Opera House foyers are accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators).
