Experience the extraordinary music of Joe Hisaishi in a new concert event celebrating one of the world’s most beloved modern composers, performed live in concert by the Sydney Symphony

Known for his close association with the films of Studio Ghibli and Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki, Joe Hisaishi has created the stunning musical accompaniment to countless films including Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro and Howl’s Moving Castle.

Art of the Score podcasters Andrew Pogson, Dan Golding and conductor Nicholas Buc will guide you through the musical world of Hisaishi. From his famous film scores to his masterpieces for orchestra, they will unpack, demystify and celebrate the multi-award-winning works and career of the great Japanese Maestro.

Featuring rarely heard masterpieces from Hisaishi’s concert works and film collaborations alongside music from some of his fan-favourite Studio Ghibli film scores, you’ll feel the power of this iconic music brought to life by the full force of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, in an unforgettable concert at the Sydney Opera House.

Getting to the venue

The Opera House is a 7-10 minute walk from Circular Quay, and is easily accessible by car, train, ferry, lightrail, bus, bike and on foot.

Location and access

Concert Hall

The Concert Hall is located beneath the largest of Sydney Opera House’s roof sails, filling the upper levels of the west side of the building. Best accessed through the covered concourse. 

All Sydney Opera House foyers are accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators).
