Sydney Symphony Orchestra: Brahms String Sextet No.1 | From Our House To Yours

In Brahms’ First String Sextet his best qualities shine through – gorgeous melodies and a rich romantic sound. The sextet adds an extra viola and cello to the conventional string quartet, and Brahms makes full use of the additional lower voices, allowing him to create an intricate blend of light and shade in this intimate and expressive music.

Restoring the Coburn Tapestries

John Coburn was at the height of his fame when the artist was pitched to architect Peter Hall to design the Sydney Opera House theatre curtains in 1969. Hall had taken over from Danish architect Jørn Utzon and was ushering the building towards completion.
