The return of a cosmic musical visionary

A visionary creative polymath who has turned his gifts to cosmically funky hip-hop, jazz and beats, mind-blowing experimental sounds and surrealist sci-fi filmmaking alike, Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles-born Steve Ellison – aka Flying Lotus – has charted a course through the millennium’s pop culture quite unlike any other artist. From releasing seven critically acclaimed, genre-redefining albums to running his influential LA Beat Scene label Brainfeeder to collaborating with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Thom Yorke, Herbie Hancock and David Lynch, FlyLo’s alchemic touch has helped shaped the psychedelic sound of the future.

Famously born into musical royalty – psych-jazz icon Alice Coltrane was his great aunt – Ellison has moved with astonishing dexterity across genre and form, dropping head-spinning electronic classics like Los Angeles (2008), Cosmogramma (2010) and the sprawling, ecstatic Flamagra (2019), producing on Kendrick’s game-shifting To Pimp A Butterfly (2015), and even composing a pair of Apple’s iconic ringtones for good measure. In 2025, he made his feature directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller Ash.

Hot off the release of his brand-new EP BIG MAMA (2026), Flying Lotus makes his long-awaited return to the Sydney Opera House, more than a decade after his spectacular last appearance. He’ll be performing his legendary Layer³ show, an immersive 3D spectacle in which the sound and vision combine to bring the audience into the wild world of FlyLo’s imagination.

Don’t miss this chance to experience one of the 21st century’s true musical geniuses.
