Trio Gaspard serves up a piano trio feast

The award-winning Trio Gaspard makes its highly anticipated Sydney Opera House debut with ravishing music for piano trio by Haydn, Brahms and more. The sought-after trio has performed in the world’s great concert halls and now brings to Sydney a program spanning master of the Classical period ‘Papa Haydn’s piano trios to 19th-century showpieces and the music of today.

The concert opens with a new piano trio by Swiss composer Helena Winkelman, commissioned for the ensemble’s ambitious Haydn project that pairs trios by Haydn with music by living composers.

Hear Winkelman’s new work alongside two piano trios by Haydn, Hungarian composer Sándor Veress’ ethereal and dance-like Tre quadri, Johannes Brahms’ popular Hungarian Dances before the program comes to an exciting close with the thrilling virtuosity of Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 9, ‘Carnival in Pest’.
